We recently finished our 2019 trip to Turkey, described at http://cascoly.com/trav/tours/2019-turkey.asp
For 2020 we're offering 3 trips in May to June which can be joined individually or combined. http://cascolytravel.com
Our journeys explore traditional and classical sites and seldom visited areas.
In Istanbul we tour the Byzantine masterpiece of Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Justinian’s underground cisterns, the sprawling opulence of the Topkapi Palace, and bustling Covered and Spice markets. Then we head north to explore Bulgaria which Lutfi and I scouted last spring for this trip. We'll travel beautiful mountain valleys hiding Orthodox monasteries completely covered in bright frescoes. We'll explore the medieval hilltop fortress of Tsarevets. It guards an antique town set along a ox-bow river gorge. Next we'll fly to Cappadocia. We have easy hikes through its strange geological formations. Finally, we explore the high desert ancient cities of eastern Turkey. A sense of adventure is required – some of these areas are not visited very often, and we may adjust the itinerary due to local conditions, weather or unique opportunities. Expect to walk 1-4 miles each day (however we can make other arrangements for those who decide not to walk)
Our friend, Lutfi Atay, is licensed as a guide by the Turkish Ministry of Tourism and is a professor at the University of Canakkale. He has been our guide for previous trips and will be with us throughout this trip. I'm licensed a a State of Washington Seller of Travel and will escort this trip. I’ve visited Turkey many times and led similar tours over the last 20 years. With a maximum of 12 participants we can eat at small local restaurants and go where larger groups cannot. We stay in 3-4 star hotels, often with 2 night stays. Most meals are included. We travel in an air conditioned, private minibus.
Each segment - Bulgaria, Cappadocia and Eastern Turkey is about 7 days long. You can sign up for one segment or link several together. Trips are all-inclusive once you arrive in Istanbul's new airport. Email me for details and pricing of these trips
